Is installing a Language Lab at your institution enough to develop the communication skills of students?

The advent of Digital Language Labs revolutionized the scopes of Language Acquisition and Learning in educational sectors all over the world. These labs functioned on the theoretical and practical basis that the tools and tasks in various language labs could essentially improve the Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing skills. But soon after their installations, students and teachers eventually lose that initial enthusiasm and zeal to make use of their scopes. With the abundant use of smart phones and laptops, students tend to normalize the features provided by language labs. This is rather unfortunate because it is undoubtedly the lack of attention and seriousness from both the sides of faculty and students. To have the benefits of Language Labs in their entirety the schools have to make proper use of the software. The surveys have clearly proven the fact that at least 3 hours a week of language lab session could make remarkable differences in the listening skills of students. The listen, repeat, comparison, and evaluation options are enabled in order for students to have better results in foreign language training. They are also enabled to review lessons using the video/audio format. This multi-faceted learning mechanism finds better results in students of any age group. The language labs, if imposed at least two hours in 3 days could encourage students to listen to the tasks in audio and video format. Mere installation of the software at the college won’t create miracles. It takes the mutual involvement of students and teachers to engage some quality time and effort at a language
